The garden is really starting to come along despite all of the cold weather and rain that continues to fall. Harvest day on Tuesday was actually sunny for a change, and gave me an excuse to get out and take some new photos to share. When I got to the barn where the weekly bags of veggies are assembled for distribution, I had a brainwave and Genny to put the contents of an average sized share, into a crate so that I could photograph it. One of the questions that Jennifer is often asked is how many veggies do shareholders get each week.
Starting in the bottom right hand corner of the picture and moving around in a clockwise direction, shareholders would have received the following veggies this week: kohlrabi, sugar snap peas, a bag of mixed salad greens, buttercrunch lettuce, broccoli, a bunch of beets, snow peas, and summer turnips!
This week at the market, Jen will be selling early potatoes, rainbow chard, Italian kale, beets, kohlrabi to name just a few of the items and also taking orders for fall lambs. The sales of pasture raised meats have exceeded expectations as more and more folks experience the difference in flavour and quality for themselves. Additional photos of the garden are posted on the Ranfurly CSA page.
